Does immigration reduce the support for welfare spending?

Katrin Auspurg, Josef Brüderl and Thomas Wöhler in American Sociological Review

15.07.2019

In their article "Does Immigration Reduce the Support for Welfare Spending? A Cautionary Tale on Spatial Panel Data Analysis" for the American Sociological Review, Katrin Auspurg, Josef Brüderl and Thomas Wöhler critically discuss an article published in the same journal by Schmidt-Catran and Spies. They found evidence for a reduction of the support of welfare spending due to immigration. Auspurg et al. argue that their analysis suffers from misspecification.
